Marathon Oil Corporation is an American oil company and is the fourth in the United States in terms of production. Included in the S & P 500 it owns more than 2.1 billion barrels of oil from fields from around the world. It was founded in 1887 under the name The Ohio Oil Company and from 1889 to 1911, it was part of the Standard Oil Company conglomerate. In 1930, The Ohio Oil Company began trading stocks on the NYSE. In 1962, the company was renamed the Marathon Oil Company. In 1984, the American part of Husky Energy was bought for $ 505 millionand in 2007, Western Oil Sands was bought for $ 6.6 billion and part of Athabasca Oil Sands. In 2013, the company sold its own Angolan Sinopec oil and gas field for $ 1.52 billion.
