Humana Inc. is an American medical insurance company. Humana offers preferential medical plans for individuals and consists of three divisions: individual health insurance (Retail), collective medical insurance for employees and military personnel (Group), and health care services for providing medical products (Healthcare Services ) Founded in 1961 under the name Extendicare and was engaged in private sanatoriums. By 1968 the number of sanatoriums reached 40, and in 1972 the company completely switched to private hospitals. The company was renamed Humana in 74. In 1978, Humana bought American Medicorp, the second-largest network of hospitals in the United States, and began health insurance in 1982. In 1990, Michael Reese Health Plan Inc., a large private academic private institution, was acquired. As of December 31, 2018, the company had approximately 17 million members in health care plans.
