Comerica Inc. is an American financial company providing banking services in several states of the USA, Canada and Mexico. It is the largest commercial bank in the USA. It was founded in 1849 in Detroit, under the name Detroit Savings Fund Institute. In 1956, the company merged with Birmingham National Bank, Ferndale National Bank and Detroit Wabeek Bank and Trust Company in The Detroit Bank & Trust Company holding company. The current name was adopted in 1982. In 1992, the company again merged, already with Manufacturers National Corporation holding. In January 2008, the US Treasury Department chose Comerica as the issuing bank for its social programs and insurance services using debit cards Direct Express.
