UnitedHealth Group Incorporated — the biggest medical insurance company in the USA. It was created in 1974 as “Charter Med Incorporated”. In 1977 it got reorganized and took a new name — United HealthCare Corporation. It developed advanced medical technologies and a modern type of insurance. In 1988 its pharmaceutical business started to grow all thanks to post services and a number of pharmacies. In 1995 it absorbs MetraHealth Companies Inc and renames to UnitedHealth Group consecutively restructured. The company enters the international market buying a Brazilian pharmaceutical giant Amil Participações S.A. and a big retail pharmacy Catamaran. It takes 4 segments of the market: Employer & individual services, Medicare & Retirement insurances, partners with medical institutions — Optum and provides free health services — Community & State.
